Chanson Française and Jazz Musette
The Sparrows of Paris
French Chansons and Jazz-Musette
The Sparrows of Paris is a jazz quartet headed by Parisian singer Carolyn Saint-Pé with accordion, guitar and double bass bringing you back to Paris of the 1930s and 40s with a repertoire of vintage French chansons, Gypsy Jazz and authentic Jazz-Musette.
Carolyn sings the songs of Edith Piaf, Fréhel, Arletty, Mistinguet and many other singers of the period. The musicians also play gypsy jazz and authentic jazz musette as played by Django Reinhardt.
The band brings vintage Paris to your event either as a romantic background or as a fun social dance called Bal Musette perfect for outdoor events and festivals.

"London now comes just after Bordeaux in terms of numbers of its urban French population, so it’s perhaps no great surprise to hear an Anglo-French group purveying authentic-sounding popular music from an era of berets, bars and bals musettes. Their admirably retro expatriate chanteuse, Carolyn Saint-Pé, is backed by four British sparrows on accordion (naturally), clarinet, acoustic guitar and double bass. Together they serve up eight morsels at a pace jaunty enough to propel the once slightly risqué close-physical Java dance that is helping to rekindle the popularity of the musette today. Two of the six vintage chansons, ‘La Java de Cézigue’ and ‘J’suis Mordue’, were once sung by the original ‘Little Sparrow’ herself, Edith Piaf. The two remaining numbers, ‘Chez Raymond’ and the playful ‘Brexzut!’, were composed by the band and speak of the modern-day ex-pat experience. It’s a somewhat brief taste of a bygone age, but The Sparrows of Paris do it with affection, brio and enough French polish to appeal to fans of a genre that once was lost, but now seems found. If you’re based in London, be sure to catch them live and have a yourself a ‘bal.’"

“Even with the Thames and London Eye providing the ever-so-Anglophone backdrop, Les Moineaux de Paris, with their French java and bal-musette, will immediately transport you back to Paris in the 1920s…. For any Francophiles wanting to discover French culture or French expats wanting to feel closer to their roots, a song and a dance with Les Moineaux de Paris is a great way to French-ify your life!“

We have had the Sparrow of Paris play a number of times in our performing programme that we deliver into Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals, playing for patients staff and visitors. They bring a charm and unique blend of music and song to our hospital audience and their sensitivity and friendliness is always welcome.

Birthday Party in London
I booked Carolyn Saint-Pé to sing at my 60th French-themed birthday party and it was a big success. Carolyn and I agreed on a set list, alternating waltzes, Javas and ballads and she sang beautifully while also encouraging the guests to dance and herself joining in as well. We also indulged in a bit of sing-along which was fun. I would totally recommend Carolyn for entertaining your guests à la française !

Thank you so much for a wonderful evening ... it was truly a relaxing evening listening to Carolyn's wonderful voice and the musicians behind her. We missed the band 4 years ago at beginning of lockdown. Truly worth the wait. Thank you Carolyn for heads up email to say you were performing. We will be back.
